In a significant push for self-reliance in national security, India is moving to deploy its own multilayered integrated air defence system to protect the Delhi National Capital Region from hostile aerial threats, including missiles, drones and fast-moving fighter aircraft.

Senior defence officials told India Today that the upcoming Integrated Air Defence Weapon System (IADWS) will be built entirely around indigenous missile platforms, notably the Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QRSAM) and Very Short Range Air Defence (VSHORADS) systems, supported by a network of sensors, radars and command-and-control architecture.
