WASHINGTON — Three Montgomery County students have been selected as winners of Representative Jamie Raskin’s 2025 Congressional App Challenge , the congressman announced on Tuesday.

The winners included Kevin Xia and Ryan Chen, a junior and a senior from Walt Whitman High School, and Peter Xiao, a senior at Montgomery Blair High School.

The trio won with their app SafeStride, which uses the phone’s camera feed to identify safe ground, Raskin’s office noted in a press release. The user is alerted through their earbuds to avoid obstacles as they move.
