Four University of Iowa international students and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security have agreed to settle a lawsuit over the termination of their student statuses that threatened their ability to remain in the United States.
The two sides agreed to dismiss the case and filed the motion in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa on Thursday, Dec. 4. The motion was granted on Dec. 5 and the case was officially terminated on Monday, Dec. 8.
As part of the joint motion to dismiss, the federal government restored the four students' statuses in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and made it appear "as though the termination... did not happen," according to court documents.
