GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) — A trial began this week for a man prosecutors say ordered two other men to carry out a deadly home invasion robbery in Gainesville in 2022.
Prosecutors allege Patrick Watson ordered Alderious White and Jason Ward to rob the Gainesville home of Dovico Miles. During the home invasion on Northeast 16th Terrace , the men shot and killed Dhalani Armstrong.
White and Ward have already been sentenced. White was sentenced to 50 years in prison, while Ward took a plea deal for 30 years.
Key developments on Monday included the defense waiving its opening statement. Judge Robert Groeb also prohibited the defense from calling a certain witness because they did not name them ahead of time to allow the state to conduct a background check. The judge said it would hav
