Former Chilean dictator General Augusto Pinochet dies.
Pinochet terrorized his opponents for 17 years after taking power in a bloody coup. Pinochet was 91.

Soul singer and songwriter Otis Redding dies when his private plane crashes near Madison, Wisconsin. He was 26 years old.
