SUMTER, S.C. (WIS) - The Sumter School District is still without a permanent superintendent as the first semester nears its end, and pressure is mounting to fill the position.

The district’s former superintendent resigned just two weeks into the school year, citing personal reasons. His departure came shortly after the State Inspector General opened an investigation into alleged mismanagement involving several district projects.

To guide the search for new leadership, the school board hired BWP & Associates, a consulting firm tasked with gathering community feedback and identifying qualified candidates. According to the firm, more than 300 people have already expressed interest in the job.
