Miami, Miami Beach and Hialeah voters had their final chance Tuesday to cast their ballots in the runoff elections, with multiple races being decided.
The Miami mayoral race featured Eileen Higgins, a former county commissioner, and Emilio Gonzalez, who previously served as the Miami City Manager and Chief Administrative Officer.
Higgins defeated Gonzalez to become the first Democrat in nearly 30 years to be elected Miami mayor.
Also in Miami, former Commissioner Frank Carollo was running against restaurant manager and political newcomer Rolando Escalona in the District 3 Commission seat runoff.
Carollo, who previously served eight years as a commissioner and is former District 3 Commissioner Joe Carollo's brother, ran to replace his brother, who was term-limited.
