Hundreds, if not thousands, of people braved the cold on Tuesday to attend President Donald Trump ‘s economy-focused speech in northeast Pennsylvania, the informal kickoff of the president’s efforts to boost Republican candidates ahead of a contentious midterm election cycle.

Trump’s remarks, delivered in a ballroom at a casino in Mount Pocono, came as he and GOP candidates are seeking to head off rising affordability concerns among voters. The matter consistently ranked No. 1 in voters’ minds, both ahead of and after, major Democratic wins in the November elections, and Trump has been scrambling over the past month to put forward new initiatives aimed at lowering prices while still backing his existing policies.
