Last month, the City Council held a hearing for two bills that would roll back some regulations placed on short-term rentals in the city.

The proposed bills, backed by the rental platform Airbnb, would increase the number of guests allowed and no longer require the rental host to be present during the guests’ stay.

But hotel unions have come out against the bills.

Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani weighed in on the ad, saying, “New York housing laws are not for sale.”

Reverend Kirsten John Foy, the president and CEO of The Arc of Justice, and Robert Desir, a staff attorney at Legal Aid Society, joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on Inside City Hall” to break down their opposition to the legislation.
