LEXINGTON — During Mark Pope 's weekly radio show Monday night, he admitted that given his Kentucky basketball team's 5-4 record through nine games, clearly, his "approach needs to change."

No scene exemplified this shift better Tuesday night than a near-30-second sequence in the first half.

Backup UK forward Brandon Garrison — he lost his starting job after five games, giving way to freshman Malachi Moreno — put forth little resistance guarding North Carolina Central's Khouri Carvey, who proceeded to convert a point-blank layup. On the ensuing possession, Garrison coughed up the ball in the paint. NCCU's Ryan Archey came up with the ball, then passed ahead to teammate Kyric Davis.
