House Bill 7, authored by State Rep. Jeff Leach (R-Plano) and sponsored by State Sen. Bryan Hughes (R-Tyler), passed during the special legislative session and became law on Dec. 4. “Right now, it’s already illegal to use these pills for elective abortions in Texas,” Hughes said, referring to mifepristone and misoprostol. “But, they’re being shipped in from different states, sometimes from overseas, so there’s no way to enforce the law except by going to the source and telling them, if you ship these pills to Texas, you’re going to be held accountable.”
