Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Tuesday said the decision over the next Prime Minister of India rests entirely with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Narendra Modi.

His remarks came in Chennai after he was asked who would take over the key position after Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Bhagwat’s response at the RSS centenary year celebrations in Chennai was widely viewed as an indication that the Sangh had no intention of getting involved in the BJP’s succession debate.

“BJP and Modi will discuss and decide on that,” Bhagwat told RSS workers, according to a report by Times of India.

He also stressed that caste-based and linguistic divides must be removed if India is to emerge as a “vishwaguru”.
