December, traditionally a lucrative month for Tamil cinema with extended festival weekends, is proving unexpectedly barren in 2025. As the year draws to a close, theatre owners, distributors, and trade analysts point to a storm of postponements, financial troubles, and structural issues that signal deeper problems ahead for the industry.

Trade analyst Ramesh Bala, speaking to India Today , outlined the cascading postponements that have left theatres scrambling. "Theatres are looking at a dry December.
