MUSKEGON, Mich. — 2026 will be the last year of camping at the Fisherman’s Landing Campground in Muskegon.

The Muskegon City Commission voted 4-2 Tuesday to sign the ownership over to Mart Dock for redevelopment.

The commission also voted separately on rezoning ordinances for the areas of Fisherman's Landing and Mart Dock.

This has been a part of the City of Muskegon’s larger waterfront development plans, which officials say will bring more economic opportunity for the city.

City leaders have called this a "generational project" that has to be done to ensure a thriving future for Muskegon. However, opponents, including the campground managers, have said the campground is an important part of the waterfront's history.
