Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called on citizens across the country to actively check and reclaim unclaimed financial assets, highlighting that more than Rs 1 lakh crore remains untouched in banks, insurance companies and investment platforms. In a detailed LinkedIn post, the Prime Minister shared key figures that have “startled" many, noting that these funds represent the hard-earned savings of Indian families.
According to Modi, Indian banks currently hold about Rs 78,000 crore in unclaimed deposits, while insurance companies have Rs 14,000 crore lying untouched. Additionally, mutual fund houses account for nearly Rs 3,000 crore in unclaimed investments, and around Rs 9,000 crore in unclaimed dividends remain unclaimed.
