Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday announced in the state assembly that the Union Government has cleared the way for installing a grand statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT).

He said the statue will be placed within the station premises once the redesigned development plan secures all statutory approvals, adding that it will be an integral part of the ongoing redevelopment of the heritage structure.

Fadnavis was responding to concerns raised during the assembly discussion, after Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Bhaskar Jadhav questioned why the historic station—renamed after the Maratha icon—still lacked a fitting statue.
