HOUGHTON — Sophomore guard Kendall Standfest, of the Michigan Tech Huskies women’s basketball team, has been named the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week for week four, the league office announced on Monday.
“I think that’s a toughness thing,” said Huskies coach Sam Clayton. “I think we’re undefeated when we win the rebounding battle and that’s a huge thing. That’s a tough thing. That’s a hard thing.
“She did lead us in that offense. Great to see her get the Defensive Player of the Week in the GLIAC. Well deserved. It starts with getting those stops, and you don’t get a stop until you finish it with the rebound.”
The honor marks the first of the sophomore standout’s career.
Standfest, a native of Elk Rapids, Michigan, helped the Huskies earn a weekend sweep to open GLIAC play with wins
