The last-minute change, coming amid enhanced social-media scrutiny, sparked chaos among Indian visa applicants.

The US Embassy in India on Tuesday night issued an advisory to visa applicants informing them that their visa appointments had been rescheduled.

"ATTENTION VISA APPLICANTS – If you have received an email advising that your visa appointment has been rescheduled, Mission India looks forward to assisting you on your new appointment date.
