Lewis Cope has offered additional details about his heartbreaking departure from Strictly Come Dancing , whilst acknowledging the impact it has had on his partner.

The actor issued a heartfelt statement regarding his stint on the BBC dancing programme, confessing the journey proved "tough" for his girlfriend of eight years.

The 30-year-old Emmerdale star became the most recent celebrity to bow out after falling short in the judges' vote during Sunday evening's dance-off against Amber Davies and pro partner Nikita Kuzmin.

Following the news of their exit, Lewis' partner Katya Jones was visibly emotional and declared she had finally discovered a partner who could "match" her abilities.
