The government’s Employment Rights Bill (ERB), introduced in October 2024, is set to bring the most significant reforms to UK employment law in decades.

While some details may still change as the bill progresses through parliament, the direction is clear. Businesses should start preparing now for the wide-ranging obligations that will take effect from 2026 onwards.

A phased roll-out

From April 2026, employees will be entitled to statutory sick pay from day one and immediate access to paternity and unpaid parental leave. The new Fair Work Agency will also be established to oversee compliance.
