RAVENNA, Ohio — At Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary in Ravenna , some things are certain. The roosters will crow, the pigs will nestle and forage and the goats will remain curious observers.
For more than 20 years, Happy Trails has provided a safe haven for farm animals rescued from criminal cases of abuse, neglect and abandonment.
But their work extends beyond emergency intake.
One resident, Diamond the horse, came through their Amish Horse Retirement Program.
"That program is designed for families who have a buggy horse -- who can no longer pull the buggy. But they have wonderful years ahead where they can be a loved family pet. So (through the program) they can be retired with us and we can find a wonderful adoptive home for them," said Lissy Kuhn, Happy Trails Development Dir
