Police have issued strict guidance ahead of the Wear-Tyne derby as excitement mounts ahead of the game at Sunderland's Stadium of Light.

With tensions high and anticipation growing, Northumbria Police, city councils, transport authorities and emergency services have been working closely to develop a detailed plan to keep fans and the public safe on derby day.

Assistant Chief Constable Helena Barron of Northumbria Police said: "There is understandably widespread excitement for the upcoming game between Sunderland and Newcastle at the Stadium of Light on Sunday.
