A 168-year-old LaSalle church has closed.

Oct. 19 was the final service for First Presbyterian Church of LaSalle at 13007 Dixie Highway. The church officially closed Nov. 30.

At its Nov. 17 regular board meeting, the LaSalle Township board, according to meeting minutes, voted 5-0 to purchase First Presbyterian Church contingent on title search.

Aaron Goldsmith, LaSalle Township supervisor, did not return calls from The Monroe News .

"It was a very hard and sad decision to make," said the church’s Lesa Russeau. "At the time of closing, we had 12 members. On a normal Sunday, our attendance was anywhere from two to five members."

About 27 attended the final service.
