Tech giant Nvidia has developed technology that will help locate its manufactured chips where they are currently operating, according to a Reuters report. The aim of location verification technology is to stop its chips from being smuggled into countries where their export is banned.
The company has privately demonstrated the capability in recent months, but it has not been released yet, according to Reuters.
The tool will be an installable software option that uses the confidential computing features built into Nvidia’s GPUs. An Nvidia official told Reuters that the software can measure a chip’s performance, something companies already do across large data-centre fleets, and use communication delays with Nvidia-run servers to estimate where a chip is physically located, similar to other
