VICKSBURG, MI –– A few days before they squared off as coaching foes, Randy Small offered his son, Derrick, a family quid pro quo: an exchanging of film and scouting reports, with no strings attached.

But Derrick wasn’t having it.

Turns out, no film was necessary for Randy, as the Hall of Fame coach guided Vicksburg to a spirited 66-56 victory over his son, Derrick, and former team, Schoolcraft, in a rare father-son coaching duel on Tuesday night.

“We told him on Sunday that if he’d give us what he was going to do, we’d give him what we were going to do, and we can get past this … but he was not having it,” said Randy, Vicksburg’s second-year head coach. “We asked him ‘What are you going to do on Tuesday? That way I don’t have to watch film. Just tell me what your plays are.
