Free WI-FI is currently being trialled for the first time ever on the Tyne and Wear Metro system. After an initial three month pilot at Newcastle Central Station , the service could then make its way to other underground stations.
Nexus has said that this will 'improve the digital experience for customers', to access data and get online without any charge, quickly and easily through the Pop App, thanks to the new Metro Connect network.
The roll out began with the initial pilot at the Newcastle city centre station on Monday, December 8, offering a much-improved mobile service for getting real time Metro service updates on the Pop App, at a station where 4G and 5G signal is limit
