CHICO, Calif. — Butte County Public Health announced it is lifting the no-swim advisory for Big Chico Creek. The decision came after recent tests by the California Department of Public Health showed no traces of the dangerous E. coli O157 strain.
On Tuesday, Butte County Public Health officials stated in a press release that other E. coli strains were found, but they are less dangerous. Officials urge caution, especially for families with young children, when swimming in the creek due to the past presence of E. coli O157.
"While these latest results are encouraging, the public’s health remains our top priority," said Dr. Jarett Beaudoin, Public Health Officer. "Lifting the advisory is an important step forward, but everyone needs to continue using caution when swimming in the creek."
