Japan was hit by a powerful earthquake of magnitude 6.5 on Wednesday, marking the third consecutive day the country was hit by tremors, days after a 7.6 magnitude tremor triggered a tsunami warning.

The European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said that the earthquake struck the Hokkaido region in Japan on Wednesday. The quake was at a depth of 57 km, EMSC said. However, the Japanese scale recorded the earthquake at a magnitude of 5.9 with a depth of 30 km. No tsunami threat has been issued following the latest earthquake.
