Pune: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has informed the Maharashtra government that it has let go of 376 employees from its Pune offices over the last two quarters of the current financial year. The information was shared in the state legislative council on Tuesday.
Labour Minister Aakash Fundkar said the number of layoffs was small and did not support media reports suggesting massive job cuts triggered by artificial intelligence or automation.
During the Question Hour, several MLCs expressed concern over alleged large-scale retrenchments at TCS centres in Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, Mumbai, Nagpur, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Some reports even claimed that around 30,000 employees were affected.
