Tata Steel has announced a slew of brownfield expansion and backward integration programmes to strengthen the long-term growth strategy in India.

The company has signed a memorandum of understanding with Lloyd Metals & Energy (LMEL) to jointly set up a greenfield 6 million tonne steel plant in two phases at Gadchiroli in Maharashtra.

Both companies will also work on iron ore mining, logistics including slurry pipeline and pellet making. They will operate mining concessions and associated infrastructure, with the objective to increase iron ore production and be a prominent player in developing the region as a new iron ore hub of India, said Tata Steel.
