GRAVETTE -- The Gravette School District implemented a new weapon detection system Tuesday night during its home basketball game against Life Way, marking a shift in event entry protocols to such events for the district.
The Opengate Weapon Detection System, a mobile automatic screening device, is now being used to identify prohibited items while maintaining the flow of foot traffic at district events, according to a statement from the district. Unlike traditional metal detectors that often require attendees to empty pockets and wait in long lines, the new system allows guests to walk through two pillars without removing backpacks, purses or bags.
Under the new procedures, spectators walk through the sensors and receive one of the following immediate visual signals:
