LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville and the University of Georgia have mutually agreed to cancel their home-and-home football series in 2026 and 2027.

According to a release from Josh Heird, UofL director of athletics, the schools are working to find a solution that offers long-term scheduling flexibility for both sides. The Cardinals were set to host the Bulldogs in 2026 and would've traveled to Athens in 2027.

Heird said when Georgia informed Louisville of its need to opt out, several contractual considerations came up, including:

Georgia would have owed Louisville a $1 million penalty for canceling.

The Cardinals could have required them to host Louisville to Athens for the 2027 return game unless they paid an additional buyout.
