A person was hospitalized Wednesday morning after they were shot by a San Diego County Sheriff's deputy in East County, according to law enforcement.

The shooting occurred at around 10:30 a.m. in the 9200 block of Briette Place in Lakeside, just north of Interstate 8 and west of Lake Jennings Park Road.

The extent of the person's injuries is not yet known; the deputy was uninjured in the incident. A spokesperson for the sheriff's department told NBC 7 that the injuries are not expected to be fatal.

It's not clear yet what led to the shooting.

The San Diego Police Department will be investigating the shooting per a cross-departmental memorandum of understanding.
