Super flu cases are rising sharply in London , new figures revealed as health chiefs warned the NHS was facing a “worst-case scenario” with the doctors’ strike starting next week.
Latest figures showed there were on average 380 patients in London hospitals with flu in the week ending December 7, compared to 259 the previous week, a rise of 47%.
The 380 figure for general and acute beds compares to 133 for the same period last year, highlighting how the super flu has hit London early and has spread fast.
There were also almost 16,600 ambulance handovers in London in the week ending December 7, an average of 2,371 a day, compared to 15,400 handovers, or 2,210 a day for the same period last year.
