The September report on Iowa's unemployment rate, delayed nearly two months because of the federal government shutdown, falls under the category of “better late than never” good news.

The unemployment rate in the Wednesday, Dec. 10, report, the latest available, dropped to 3.7%, down slightly from 3.8% in August. It was the first time since February 2024 ― more than 1 1/2 years ― that Iowa’s unemployment rate had dropped in a monthly report.
