OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) - Marion County Health Department officials have issued a new rabies alert after finding an infected raccoon, bringing the total of active alerts in the county to four.

Florida Department of Health officials say a raccoon was killed in the area of Southeast 17th Street and 25th Avenue on Dec. 7. The animal tested positive for the virus.

As a result, the department has issued a 60-day rabies alert for the areas within the following boundaries: Northern boundary - NE 2nd St., Southern boundary - SE 31st St., Eastern boundary - SE 36th Ave., and Western boundary- SE 9th Ave.

Within the last few weeks, three other rabies alerts have been issued in Marion County, and one alert has been issued in Alachua County.
