A 35-year-old Wildwood man was arrested and charged after setting fire to an apartment, authorities announced Wednesday, Dec. 10.
On Saturday, Nov. 22, Wildwood police responded to a report of a fire, but heavy smoke prevented entry until personnel from the Wildwood Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the blaze, Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland and Wildwood Police Chief Joe Murphy said.
Fire crews entered the residence and located Edmir Pepa and removed him from the scene, authorities said. Pepa was later airlifted to a nearby hospital, authorities said.
An investigation determined that Pepa set fire to multiple areas inside his apartment, authorities said.
He is charged with arson and causing widespread injury or damage, authorities said.
