Hyundai Elantra

The Hyundai Elantra was the most stolen car model in the first half of 2025, according to a report by the National Insurance Crime Bureau and the most stolen truck was the Chevrolet Silverado 1500.

The report, released Sept. 17, indicated that car thefts were down 23% in the first half of the year, with 334,114 vehicle thefts reported. The national average theft rate fell from 126.62 per 100,000 residents in the first half of 2024 to 97.33 in the same period for 2025.

All but one state recorded declines in the first two quarters of the year, according to the NICB. Alaska was the lone state with an increase, seeing a 26% rise largely driven by theft trends in the Anchorage metropolitan area.
