The City of Edmonton has planted a record-breaking 484,091 trees and shrubs this year, making a leap towards its long-term tree planting goal.

The new net trees, a concept used to indicate the total number of trees being gained, has the goal of planting two million trees and achieving 20 per cent canopy within 50 years of the plan’s start, finishing in 2071. Since 2021, the City has planted 810,546 trees and shrubs towards these goals.
