ALLOUEZ, Wis. (WBAY) - Former Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes made his first official campaign stop to Northeast Wisconsin on Wednesday, meeting with Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich and other officials in Allouez.

Barnes says if elected, he would call for a special session to expand Medicaid in Wisconsin, known as BadgerCare, and that he would veto any state budget that doesn’t bring down health care costs.

Barnes did not say how much his campaign has fundraised since launching earlier this month; campaign finance reports will be due at the end of the year for all candidates.

Barnes is one of eight democrats currently running - and the latest to enter - but believes his experience will stand out in the primary, even though he narrowly lost a statewide election for U.S. Senate three year
