N.Y. Times offers commentary suggesting that winning the five seats gerrymandered under the new map “is far from a lock for Republicans next November.” Most interestingly, from my perspective, it reports that “the state [Democratic] party, along with Texas Majority PAC . . . . announced that it had signed up [Democratic] candidates in every state house and senate race in 2026 as well as all of those for the U.S. House.” The state’s Democratic Party and the civic groups it has embedded with were a key example Didi Kuo and I offered of nascent signs of associational party building within the two major parties in our original piece . The story, of course, emphasizes evidence that Latino voters may be souring on Trump.
