SHREVEPORT, La. - After years of planning, delays and departmental reshuffling, every employee of the Shreveport Police Department has now been relocated from its longtime headquarters at 1234 Texas Ave., clearing the way for construction of a new facility.

The structure, which has stood on the city’s landscape since the early 1900s and served as police headquarters for decades, is now officially vacant. Police Chief Smith has overseen the multiyear effort to move staff out of the deteriorating building.

During a walkthrough Wednesday, Cpl. Chris Bordelon described the worsening conditions inside, noting the smell and visible remnants of years of leaking pipes and the black mold left behind.
