Timmins City Council chose a west end location for the homeless encampment response initiative site after a lengthy and tense discussion and vote on Tuesday night.
It will be located at 5310 Highway 101 West, the property formerly home to the Tembec sawmill, which closed in 2006. It is 14 kilometres west of downtown Timmins, just outside city limits, and just behind a youth healing lodge.

The matter was a late addition to the council agenda. It comes after a special meeting of the Cochrane District Services Board on Friday wherein potential sites were narrowed down to two, and then turned over to city council to choose their preferred site.
