LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - University of Michigan Health Sparrow took a big step forward for patient care with brand new equipment that it said drastically shortens turnaround times for lab tests.
Hospital officials unveiled the machine on Wednesday. UM Health Sparrow is one of the first hospitals in the US to receive the new technology.
The equipment is called FlexLab X and produces test results in a matter of hours.
This is how the machine works: a lab technician first loads up the sample tube, then the machine sends it down an automated line to process and analyze the sample.
UM Health Sparrow Director of Laboratories Jon Baker said the technology will take some of the burden off staff and boost patient turnaround times.
