ANN ARBOR – Michigan’s football program is turning to a familiar face after firing head coach Sherrone Moore on Wednesday.
Athletic director Warde Manuel named Biff Poggi as interim head coach – he also occupied earlier this season when Moore was suspended for two games as part of Michigan’s sign-stealing scandal.
In Weeks 3 and 4 under Poggi, 66, the Wolverines smashed Central Michigan 63-3 and then went on the road and upended Nebraska, 30-27.
Poggi was criticized for not taking a timeout late in the first half that allowed the Cornhuskers a shot at a successful Hail Mary, but the team largely performed well with him on the sideline – even though he said he felt like a “mummy” not being able to wear his customary sleeveless shirts on game day.
