APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. — Authorities seized dynamite from a car in the East Valley on Wednesday.

The Apache Junction Police Department responded to reports of a person in crisis at a drug and alcohol addiction treatment center on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers "took time to build rapport with the individual," police said, and provided "reassurance and support that helped de-escalate the situation."

The person was connected with appropriate mental health services and then taken to crisis healthcare without incident, police said.

While speaking with officers, the person said there was dynamite in their vehicle. Officers contacted the Mesa Police Department's Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit to assess and handle the materials properly.
