A morning cup of coffee — often a daily lifeline — can be more than just a wake-up ritual. Dr Saurabh Sethi, a gastroenterologist with training at Stanford University, Harvard University, and AIIMS, claims that a few simple changes may turn that regular brew into an anti-inflammatory, gut-friendly beverage that promotes digestion and overall wellness.

In a recent Instagram post, Dr Sethi outlined a five-step formula for 'anti-inflammatory coffee'.

Freshly brewed hot coffee

The first step in the procedure is freshly made black coffee, which is high in antioxidants even by itself. A cup of coffee contains 220–550 mg of antioxidants, according to a 2013 study that was published in Antioxidants.

The same cup contains between 15 and 325 mg of polyphenolic antioxidan
