NASSAU COUNTY, Fla — A Nassau County couple is behind bars after investigators say a 6-month-old baby suffered a broken femur during a diaper change Monday.

Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper called the case “heartbreaking,” saying the suspects, identified as 34-year-old Jasper Shick and 36-year-old Sarah Rediker, failed to protect their child and waited hours before seeking medical help.

“It’s heartbreaking,” Leeper said. “You feel so bad for the child who relies on their parents to keep them safe, and in this instance, they didn’t. They didn't do their job."

Deputies say the baby was injured around 7 p.m. Monday. According to investigators, Shick became frustrated while changing the baby’s diaper.
