As a bankruptcy lawyer, I see all kinds of situations that lead to crippling debt. Lately, I have seen more people who get addicted to gambling sites on their phones. There is also a surprising increase of people who spend a lot of money on addictive games on their phones that are not “gambling” in the traditional sense — there is no chance of the user making money from these apps.
To the credit of gambling websites and apps, many offer protection for people who go too far: voluntary limits on how much users can play or how much money they can spend, or even a voluntary ban from the site.
