A lake effect snow warning was issued by the National Weather Service on Thursday at 1:30 a.m. in effect until Friday at 4 a.m. for Southern Erie as well as Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties.
The weather service adds to anticipate, "Heavy lake effect snow. Additional snow accumulations 6 to 10 inches in the most persistent lake snows. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph will produce blowing and drifting snow in open areas."
"Travel will be difficult with snow covered roads and poor visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the Thursday morning and evening commutes," says the weather service. "Heavy snow will fall in relatively narrow bands. If traveling, be prepared for rapidly changing road conditions and visibilities."
